Song lyrics and video
and build a lego house
if things go wrong we can knock it down
My three words have two meanings,
there's one thing on my mind
It's all for you
And it's dark in a cold December,
but I've got ya to keep me warm
and if you're broken I will mend ya and keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
and out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now, now
I'm gonna paint you by numbers
and colour you in
if things go right we can frame it, and put you on a wall
And it's so hard to say it but I've been here before
and I will surrender up my heart
and swap it for yours
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
and out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
Don't hold me down
I think my braces are breaking
and it's more than I can take
And if it's dark in a cold December,
I've got ya to keep me warm
and if you're broken then I will mend ya
and keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on, now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
and out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
and out of all these things I've done
I will love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
and out of all these things I've done
I will love you better now

Video Idea
Some of my research consisted of watching a directors commentary which was made into a programme called mirrorball the director I used to help me plan and research my music video was Spike Jonze, here is a snippet of his commentary.
The Singer/songwriter genre have many artists, there are a couple which I would like to use as my music video with artists such as:
By watching this commentary and interview I was able to help think of ideas and what I would do with ideas of filming and locations. This is how my ideas came about...
The Singer/songwriter genre have many artists, there are a couple which I would like to use as my music video with artists such as:
Damien Rice
Bon Iver
Adele
Eric Clapton
Tracy Chapman
Jamie Woon
Laura Marling
Ben Howard
Ed Sheeran
After much analysis and deliberation I have decided to produce my music video on the artist of Ed Sheeran, I have chosen this because he fits the genre perfectly, his lyrics are intriguing and has learnt from other such artists as Damien Rice and John Mayer. So far he has produced two music videos both made on a low budget and producing outstanding quality. His two videos he has produced I will be analyzing to seek a pattern or not in his videos to help establish what to do in mine
Result of first analysis
From analyzing these two videos I have established many things that I can relate to in my creation. Firstly, I have chosen my genre being singer/songwriter as I would like to produce something simple but effective as seen by my second analysis video of John Mayer. I feel that I can produce something just as outreaching as he can with a low budget, creating a music video of alternate rock would consist of months of preparation and preferably a higher budget. If i were to produce a professional music video I would of looked more into my first analysis. My other reasons consist of singer/songwriter genre being more interested in the voice and lyrics and then composing such an effective recognizable video. Other artists than John Mayer who have produced such quality videos that are simple but effect are...
Birdy-Skinny Love
Although looking at my first analysis it seems location is important to set the scene and helps set a narrative which is important to convey in my music video. Secondly, I should look to key ways to sell the artist whether it be screen focus or promotion of intertextual references. In my opinion it is important in the genre of singer/songwriter to have that connection of visual, audio relationship to create an atmosphere this is seen in many other videos.
Second video analysis
John Mayer -Waiting on the World To Change - singer/songwriter
This song has been produced by singer/songwriter John Mayer, he has created his music video consisting of five key elements to make it successful. Firstly, genre in keeping with the genre of singer/songwriter he has made his video focus on the lyrics and music, instead of pyrotechnics and wow factor therefore determining him into that genre. The music is also low key and contains proper instruments as do other sing/songwriter’s videos such as, Adele all you here is the piano and voice because of this they therefore can also be classed as folk singers as well. Also determining them as a singer/songwriter as the focus is on the lyrics and meaning in this case John Mayer sings about everyone’s disregard to the current conditions in the world.
The second element consists the relationship between the lyrics and the video, In the music video ‘ Waiting for the world to Change’ the theme consists of not letting the world stay the way it is in lack of power, this is represented in the video by the characters creating ideas to change the world for the better therefore creating a narrative. The third element is selling the artist; this is done through the idea of him being seventy five percent on screen just singing, the idea of him just singing leaves the audiences mind to be endeared as well as focusing on the artist himself. This is also seen with the idea of him having a touching theme this makes him seen a decent person. The video however like most videos in this genre sell the artist to be someone who produces their own music and lyrics as they’re not trying to be bigger and better than anyone else and therefore are subtly attracting the audience with low key videos.
In addition, we distinguish the fourth element which is the relationship between the audio and the visuals for example the beats, this is recognised as every time there is a new scene there is a heavy beat as it features on the accent of 4/4. The fifth final element relevant here is the reference of direct address, we see this via the theme of the video and the direct attention he gives to the audience being half of the on screen focus but also dealing with sensitive issues.

Introduction and First analysis
Welcome to my A2 Media Studies Coursework, where I will be creating a series of products. It will consist of research and planning followed by analysis and ending in evaluations to help me create the following products.
- Music Video
-Album CD cover front/back
- Advert for Cd/music Video
I will follow my own strict schedule to make sure all elements are created on time and with the best quality.
Goodwin
Goodwin found there were six Key elements to analyze video's I have used these elements to show these with the analysis of two very different music video's. In my evaluation I will then show how In my video how I have used these six key elements to do my video.
First Analysis of music videos
I have chosen two different video’s that are seen to be two different genres, I have done this so I could establish what I would like to use with my own music video. Although these may not be my final choice they are a rough idea of what im wanting to do. Using Six key elements I have been able to analyse these two videos...
Goo Goo dolls-Iris- Alternate rock
This song has been produced by American rock band, The Goo Goo Dolls they have created a music video using six key elements to make it successful. Firstly, is the genre in keeping with the genre of rock they have followed the renowned predictability for a rock music video in that they perform in the video themselves, making them the focus of the video, this then enhances their likability within the public. Characteristics are seen from the genre of rock in this video in that it thoroughly shows the band and its instruments conveying the message of showing they are into real music this is expected from this band and video as they construct such a distinctive sound by showing these shots you can identify the genre without listening to the sound.
The second element consists of them having a multiplicity of Intertextual references, this is seen in this video as it constantly refers from clips to the film of ‘City Of Angels’ with Nicolas Cage being shot in a number of the scenes demonstrating a scene where he is seen on a skyscraper revealing shots of New York once again relating to the genre of rock as this is seen in many other videos such as 30 seconds to Mars or U2 performing on a rooftop over LA. Therefore seeing that intertextual references helped made the video massive as its now easily recognised from the iconic scenes over the rooftops into the video as like other videos
The third element comes from the relationship between the lyrics and the video, In the music video The Goo Goo Dolls are placed on skyscrapers. There actions consist of observing the lives of others through telescopes this is linked in to the repetitive lyrics of ' and I don't want the world to see me' showing there lyrics through conduct this helps to present a narrative to the audience. The fourth element consists of selling the artist, in this video we see the band being the majority of the focus through directly being center pull on the camera or close ups of the band members this makes them the direct focus of the audiences attention. Secondly, as it is an inter-textual reference it's promoting the band and therefore immensely recognizable in two different industries.
Furthermore, we distinguish the fifth element which is the relationship between the audio and the visuals for example the tempo, beats etc... This is seen where every time there is a heavy beat the band's actions follow with guitar sliding following the rhythm. The sixth final element relevant here is the reference of direct address, we see this via the signals of camera contact and looking directly at the audience this grabs the viewers attention and also makes a direct cultural link.
